THe Princely care which We euer beare towards the good gouernment and reliefe of Our people , suffereth no occasion to passe , whereby We may exercise and manifest the same ; neither is it vnknowen to Our louing Subiects , by former Proclamations of this nature , how desirous Wee haue alwayes beene to renew and reuiue the ancient and laudable custome of this Our Kingdome ; whereby Noble-men and persons of qualitie , were vsed rather to dwell and reside in the seuerall Counties of this Realme , where their principal seats and mansions were ; then to gather to London , and there to remaine to the decay of Hospitalitie , and the disseruice of the Countrey : Wherefore taking into Our Princely consideration , that Wee being now in Our Iourney towards Our Realme of Scotland , resort of such persons vnto Our Citie will be lesse needfull , but rather that it is farre more conuenient , that they abide and continue in their seuerall dwellings in the Countrey , to performe the duties and charge of their places , and seruice ; And likewise by House-keeping to be a comfort vnto their Neighbours ; We doe hereby straightly charge and command all Our Lieutenants ( except such as be of our Priuie Councell , or are commanded to attend vpon Vs in Our Iourney ) and also all Noblemen , Deputie Lieutenants , Knights , and other Gentlemen of Qualitie , which haue Mansion houses in the Countrey , That within twentie dayes after this our Proclamation published , they depart with their wiues and families out of Our said Citie of London , and the Suburbs thereof , and returne to their seuerall habitations in the Countrey , and there continue and abide , vntill the end of the Sommer vacation : Wherein neuerthelesse we would haue this Our commandement to be vnderstood , that such as haue necessarie occasion to attend here in Our City of London for Tearme businesse concerning their estate , or such as shal haue other speciall and vrgent occasions , which they shall signifie and approoue vnto Our Priuy Councell , may , during the two next Tearmes , or during such other times as their occasions ( so to be signified and approoued as aforesaid ) shall require , come vp and remaine within Our Citie of London , or the Suburbs thereof , this Our Proclamation notwithstanding . And because Wee haue heretofore found much remissenesse and neglect in obeying Our Proclamations , which are euer published for iust and politique causes , and for the publike good ; Wee doe therefore admonish all those whom these presents may concerne , to beware , that Wee haue no iust cause to make them an example of contempt for disobeying this Our Royall commandement .
