WHereas Thomas Papillon Esquire , Citizen and Mercer , and John Dubois Esquire , Citizen and Weaver , have been duely Elected Sheriffs of the City of London and County of Middlesex for the Year ensuing , by the Citizens of this City ; And Whereas We did on Tuesday last , for our selves and on the behalf of the rest of the Citizens of London , Desire your Lordship and this Honourable Court , to Cause Proclamation to be made for the said Persons to Appear , and to take the said Office upon them , under the Penalties contained in the Act of Common Council , according to the Usual Custom in the like Case Practised : To which we received an Unexpected Answer ; That your Lordship and this Court would Consider of it ; which Answer , as it Imports a Delay of the Citizens Right demanded , so it gives Incouragement to several Reports , as if there were an Intention to Cause some other Persons not Elected to the said Offices to be Sworn into the same , which would be a manifest Violation of Law , and of the Rights and Priviledges of the Citizens , and tend to the Endangering of the Liberties of this City , which your Lordship and all other Citizens are bound by Oath to Preserve ; We Doe therefore renew our Request to your Lordship and this Court , and do Desire , and of Right Demand , that your Lordship and this Court will forthwith Cause Proclamation to be made for the said Thomas Papillon and John Dubois to Appear , and Seal their Bonds to take upon them the said Office , according to Custom ; Whereby the Citizens may receive their just Satisfaction , and the said Reports , which Reflect upon your Lordship and the Court of Aldermen in Relation to the Duty of your Oaths and Office , may be Silenced .

WE whose Names are hereunder Written , for and on the behalf of our selves and others our fellow Citizens , Livery-men and Free-men of the City of London , do desire , and by these Presents Impower you to enter one or more Caveat or Caveats for us jointly or severally against Dudly North Esquire , and Ralph Box Esquire , their being Summoned , Sworn and Admitted Sheriffs of the City of London and County of Middlesex for the Year ensuing ; We the said Persons Insisting for our Right in the Choice we have made of Thomas Papillon Esquire , and John Dubois Esquire , to be Summoned , Sworn and Admitted Sheriffs of the City of London and County of Middlesex for the Year ensuing , they being Elected and Declared Sheriffs for the City of London and County of Middlesex for the Year ensuing .
