WHereas there is a printed Petition ( intituled , To the right Honourable the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled . The humble Petition of the Gentry , Ministers , Free-holders , and other substantiall Inhabitants of this County of Yorke ) spread abroad in the County , which we conceive to bee a great wrong and scandall to all well-affected persons , not onely in respect of the matter thereof which wee utterly dislike , as laying an imputation upo●●he Parliament , in not giving life to the Lawes of the Land , and likewise in charging them to be the cause of the distractions of this Kingdome : But also , that it was never presented to the Countrey at the generall meeting the 3. of June , albeit it was printed the next day , and since read in divers Churches ; Wee whose names as here subscribed , doe hereby make our Protestation against the said Petition , as no way ever approved on by us , or agreeing with our sence . And we doe hereby further declare , that wee shall ( according to our Protestation lately taken by us ) with our lives and fortunes defend his Majesties Royall Person , Honour and Estate , and also the power and priviledge of Parliament , together with the rights and liberties of the Subjects ; of which Rights and Liberties we conceive the Priviledges of Parliament to be the chiefe .
