WHereas His Highnesse by his Proclamation lately published for setting of Prices vpon Wines , did declare ( amongst other things ) That the best Gascoigne & French Wines should be sold at eighteene pounds the Tonne , and at sixe pence the Quart by Retaile ; And the Rochel Wines at fifteene pounds the Tonne in grosse , and at fiue pence the Quart by Retaile : His Maiestie hauing taken into his consideration , that this present yeere the Wines of Gascoigne , some of them are very small , thin , and scarcely to be discerned from the thinner sort of Wines , and the thinner Wines are of diuers sorts , some very good that they are exceedingly desired , and some so thinne and small , that they are not meete to bee sold at so high a Rate as fiue pence the Quart , Is pleased , and doeth ordeine , that the good and wholesome Wines of the growth of France , aswell those of Rochel as the rest , shall bee sold by retaile at reasonable prices , not exceeding Sixe pence the Quart , and according to that Rate by retaile : Charging and commanding such of His Subiects and others whom it shall concerne , that during this present yeere they sell the said Wines by retaile at reasonable rates and prices , not exceeding Sixe pence for the Quart , And that none of them presume to take aboue Sixe pence the Quart by retaile for any Wines of the growth of France , aswell for those of Rochel as for the rest , as they tender His pleasure , and will auoid the contrary at their perils .
