AN ACCOUNT OF THE Whole Produce of the DUTIES arising by GLASS-WARES , Tobacco-Pipes , and Stone and Farthen-Wares .

BY the Commissioners Account for Receiving the said Duties , the Gross Duty appears , from Michaelmas , 1695. to the Seventeenth of November , 1696. to be       17642 1 5 Out of which must be Deducted , l. s . d .       For Charges of Collecting the Duty as by their own Account , 2766 3 4       For Debentures at London , according to the Commissioners of the Customhouse's Account , 840 5 8       For Debentures at Bristol , according to the said Commissioners Account , 2976 0 0       For Debentures at New-Castle and S●eels 1020 0 0       For prompt Payment , allowed by the Commissioners of Glass-Duties Account . 167 4 1         7769 13 1               9872 8 4

And out of the above-said Sum will be drawn back for Glass that will be Exported out of the Stock now on the Makers Hands , which hath paid the Duty , and is included in the above-said Sum at least 700 l. and with an Addition of 10000 Dozen of Bottles more to be made , which will pay but 500 l. to the Crown , will answer all D●mands for Glass until Lady-day next ; so that adding the 500 l. to the above 9872 l. 8 s . 4 d . and then Deducting 700 l. for the Glass that will be Shipt off ; and also 1000 l. for the Charge of Collecting from the 17 of November last , to Lady-day next , there will remain but 8672 l. 8 s . 4 d . for a Year and a half .

Which said Sum of 14240 l. 3 s . 7 d . is more then any ensuing Year can produce , for several Reasons , shewn in several Printed Cases ; from whence it may plainly appear , what truth there is in the Commissioners Pretences , of Farming the several Duties , on the Three Manufactures , at 50000 l. per An. being only a Contrivance to continue their Places , without respect to the Crown , or the Perishing of at least 10000 poor Souls , depending on the said Three Manufactures : For 't is very sure , no well affected Persons to the Government , for their own private Interest , will falsely insinuate , a great advantage thereto , by a considerable Income of 50000 l. per An. by a Duty , when at the same time they know , and 't is Demonstrable , the said Duty cannot bring in one third part of the Money . Besides the Continuance thereof will make the said 10000 Persons incapable of paying towards the Subsidy Act , &c. for want of Imployment ; as also occasion their being burthensome to the several Parishes where they dwell , and consequently make others less capable to pay the said Act and other Taxes .
