BY THE KING . A Proclamation to Prorogue the Assembly of the Lords and Commons of Parliament at OXFORD , untill the ninth day of November next .

WHEREAS by Our Proclamation bearing date the 22th day of December last , for the Reasons therein Expressed , We Assembled , at Our City of Oxford the 22. day of January last , the Members of both Our Houses of Parliament , which Assembly was , by Our Consent , Adjourned , untill the 8th day of October next ; We now taking into Our Princely Consideration , the present Difficulties in the Passage unto Our said City of Oxford , and the Dangers , that those Members of both Houses may thereby incurre , if they should reassemble at the said time and place , before the severall Counties about Oxford be cleared from the Rebells Forces , that infest those , and other Parts , through which the said Members must necessarily passe , and the Incertainty of Our Returne to Oxford , so soon as the time appointed ; And We most earnestly desiring , as soon as with Conveniency may be , to be assisted with the Councell , and Advice of the said Members of both Our Houses of Parliament , and to have them Witnesses of all Our Actions , and Proceedings , in order to the Peace of this Our Kingdome , and the good of Our People ; have resolved to respite the meeting of the said Assembly , till such time as it may consist with the present Condition of Our Affaires , and be convenient for the Members Accesse to Us. And to that end , We doe hereby Declare , Our Will and Pleasure to be , That the meeting of the said Assembly at Oxford , be prorogued , from the said 8th day of October next , untill the 9th day of November next . And We doe hereby . Will , and Require all the Members of both Houses , mentioned in Our said Proclamation to Assemble themselves together at Our City of Oxford , upon the said 9th day of November , next ensuing the date hereof , where all possible Care shall be taken , for their free Passage and Accommodation , and where ( We being debarred by force of Armes , to receive their Advice at Our City of Westminster ) all Our good Subjects shall behold Our constant Care , and Resolution , to prepare , promote , and perfect , by the concurrent Councells of the said Members of both Houses of Parliament , all meanes consisting with piety towards Almighty God , and Justice to Our Selves and them , which may best prevent that generall Desolation which will inevitably follow the continuance of this Warre , and to endeavour to remove all Impediments , that obstruct the way to a happy Peace to this Nation , and Our other Kingdomes , which out of Our Princely , and Fatherly Compassion of Our Peoples sufferings , and Calamities , under the inevitable pressures of a Civill Warre , and Forreigne Invasion , We doe , and ever shall , preferre before all earthly Blessings that may befall Us , and dayly implore the God of Peace to vouchsafe it Us , and Our People . And Our Pleasure is , That this Our Proclamation be Read in all Churches , and Chappells within this Our Kingdome , and Dominion of Wales . Given at Our Court at EXCESTER , the Twenty first day of September , in the Twentieth yeare of Our Reigne . 1644.
