WHereas We are Informed that several Iustices of the Peace , Sheriffs and other Magistrates presuming on their Power in the Country , have by Colour of their Authority in a most Illegal and Arbitrary manner , and contrary to the known Laws of this Kingdom , dispossest several of their Majesties Subjects not only of their Goods and Chattels , but of their Lands and Tenements to the disturbance of the Quiet and Peace of this Kingdom , the Subversion of the Law and the Reproach of Their Majesties Government . We therefore Command and Require all Iustices of the Peace , Mayors , Sheriffs and other Magistrates whatsoever , that they forbear all such Illegal proceédings , and that they do not so far presume on their Authority as to Intermeddle with the Property , Right , Title or Possession of the Estate , Goods or Chattels of any Their Majesties Subjects , other then as by due Course of Law they are required and as they shall be able to Iustifie . And We Require all Sheriffs to cause this Our Proclamation publickly to be Proclaimed in every Market-Town within their respective Counties , the next threé Market days succeéding after this shall come to their hands to the end their Majesties Subjects who have beén any wise grieved may have notice of this Our Resentment of such unlawful proceédings , so that they may make their Complaint if they think fit to the next setting Iudges at the respective Assizes in Order to have redress for the Injuries done them and that the Offenders may be dealt with according to Law . But We do hereby declare that nothing in this Proclamation contained is intended to hinder or obstruct the execution of Our Proclamation of this date for disarming and secureing the Arms of the Persons in the said Proclamation mentioned .
