WHEREAS by Our Proclamation of the Fourth day of February last , We did pursuant to the Articles of Lymerick , grant unto several Persons thereby qualified Lycences for the wearing of Arms such as are in the said Lycences particularly mentioned . And whereas it hath been observed that many others though they have by former Proclamations been required to bring in their Arms have nevertheless neglected so to do in contempt of our Authority , and as We have good reason to believe with design to disturb the Quiet and Peace of the Kingdom , especially at this time when the French King does openly declare his Intentions of a Descent upon some part of Their Majesties Dominions . To the end therefore that as much as in vs lies We may secure the Publick Peace and prevent the Designs of ill disposed Persons . We therefore do hereby strictly enjoyn and require all Persons whatsoever , as well those who have Lycences , as aforesaid , as others , that immediately after the Publication of this Our Order they deliver to the High-Sheriff of the County , Governour or Deputy-Governour , or to the next Commissioner of Array unto their respective Habitations or places of abode , all their Arms as well Fire-Arms , as Swords , Pikes , half-Pikes Halbards , Partizans , Skeenes , Baggonets , and all other Arms Offensive and Defensive whatsoever , which if they shall fail to do , and upon any after search or Information it shall be found that they have any such Arms in their Custody or Possession , they shall be deemed Persons disaffected to the Government and as such be proceeded against with the utmost severity of Law . And we do hereby require all such Sheriffs or Iustices of the Peace , as aforesaid , to whom any Arms shall be delivered as aforesaid , that they give Receipts to the Parties of what they shall receive from them respectively , giving also an Account thereof immediately after to the Clerk of the Council and Carefully laying them up untill they shall receive the further Order of this Board for the disposal of them . And We do hereby declare that the reason why the said Sheriffs and Iustices of Peace are hereby Directed to give Receipts for such Arms as they shall receive is for this Intent only , That the same may be restored to such as had obtained Lycences when We shall find it may be done without danger of the Publick Safety : And the said Iustices of Peace , Sheriffs , Mayors , and other Officers are hereby Impowred and required to send for any Person or Persons in whose hands it shall appear to them any Arms lately were , And if they shall not deliver the same or give a reasonable Account why they cannot do it , then they are to be proceéded against according to Law , and as is Directed by Our Proclamation bearing date the 24th . day of February last .
