BY the advantages of a Liberal Education in the University , and many years Experience in the practice of Physick in this City , the unprejudiced cannot but think me a person capable not only of detecting the innumerable mischiefs arising from Quacks , and their ill compounded and worse prepared Trash , but also of making Medicines far surpassing any that such Men can pretend to the knowledge of . Accordingly I have invented , and for some time published , for the benefit of the Publick , these Pills ( the result of Reason and Experience ) which I have justly brought their poysonous and absurd Physick under a deserved disreputation , all that are wise now dreading to trust their lives with those Pretenders , by whom so many have suffered ; since they have ample Assurance on Whom and What they may rely . For not only the meaner sort of all Ages , and each Sex , but people of Eminence both for their Rank in the World and their Parts , have found admirable success in taking these Pills .

They are and have been found successful in the Scurvy , Venereal Disease , Gout , Dropsie , Coma , Lethargy , Carus , Apoplexy , Palsy , Convulsion , Falling-Sickness , Vertigo , Madness , Catarrhs , Headach , Scald and sore Heads , fore Eyes , Deafness , Toothach , fore Mouth , sore and swollen Throat , foul Stomach , bad Digestion , Vomiting , Pain at the Stomach , sowre Belching , Colick , Twisting of the Guts , Loosness , Worms , all Obstructions of the Pancreas , of the Mefaraick Veins , of the passages of the Chyle , and of the Liver and Spleen , the Jaundice , Cachexy , Hypochondriack Melancholy , Green-Sickness and most Diseases of the Womb , Agues , Itch , Boyls , Rheumatism , Pains and Aches , Surfeits by eating and hard drinking , or by Heats and Colds ( as some call them . ) They are also good in taking the Waters . I would not advise them by any means in the Bloody-Flux , nor in continual Fevers ; but they are good to purge after either of those Diseases is over , or to carry off the Humor aforehand . They must also be 〈◇〉 born by Women with Child . Otherwise they are good for any Constitution and in any Clime . They are durable many years , and good at Sea as well as on Land .

They are proper in the forementioned Diseases at any time of the Year : And because no people are so exactly emperate , as not to contract some superfluous Humors endangering their Health , it is necessary , and prudent for them every Spring and Fall , to discharge those Humors , tho' they feel nothing urgent in themselves so to do , more than their provident care for Maintenance of their Health they then enjoy . And a Dose or two of these Pills may probably ensure any ordinary Constitution for half a year .

But I t k it Charity to caution you against some cobling Doctors , who having no Knowledge in the Earth , pretend to a great deal in the Stars : Do but read their 〈◇〉 , and they will tell you their skill in Nonsense , and their Ignorance in Physick , notwithstanding their boasted Astrology . Believe them as little , who dare advise Women with Child to take as many of their purging Pills as their Body will bear , not regarding the Murther of Children .

Nor let their impudence move you any more than to Indignation , who having no reputation of their own , boast of Physicians approving their Trash , but produce no Physician's name that does so : You may justly suspect such Mens Physick equally with their vain Assertions .

Most of these Mountebank-Doctors also that commenced in a Shop , being Vagrants from their Trades , provide feigned Letters of feigned Cures , as a Pass for their poysonous Mercurial Physick , from one Town to another , having no other Patent recommendatory to practise by , than the Fob of a Letter from some Country-Fellow , in commendation of some Physick which he never took . These things being far remote from Ingenuity or Learning , I shall never trouble you with any such .

These London Pills are sold in several Places in London , and at my House on the Left-hand the Arch in great Winchester-street ( where you may have Advice in all Diseases ; I being to be spoken with between eight and nine in the Morning , 1 and 2 in the Afternoon , and five and six in the Evening . ) They are sealed up in Tin Doxes , with a Serpent encircling the word [ SALUS . ] Their Price 2 s . 6 d . the larger Box , and 1 s . the less , with ample Directions how to use them .
